Looking Forward to 2017

Dear LZBSA families,

Cubs win!  Cubs win!  Cubs win!  What an amazing 7 game series the Cubs provided fans to clinch the World Series after a 108 year drought. As we approach another season of baseball and softball in Lake Zurich, I'm reminded of the history that LZBSA has had (formerly LZYBA) of providing youth baseball since the late 1950's, if you can believe that!!

70 years of anything is a long time and we're proud to deliver the best experience we can to our community of baseball and softball athletes. We've relied on 1000's of volunteers over the years and every cent of your registration fees goes back into the program. Without a park district to rely on for financial support like other communities, LZBSA is completely self-funded and responsible for all field maintenance and capital improvements.

As many of you know, we've completely redone several fields over the years and 2016 was no different.  We're proud to report that Hunters Creek (renamed Anderson Field in memory of Dave Anderson, a long time LZBSA coach who passed suddenly in 2015) has been completely remodeled adding covered dugouts and grading to provide ADA accessibility. Community donations contributed nearly $20,000 to the project and the Lake Zurich Park Board provided paving to complete the finishing touches.

Three years ago LZBSA launched the Challenger Division, which is a program designed for mentally and/or physically challenged youth, helping them to enjoy the full benefits of Little League baseball participation in an athletic environment structured to their abilities. Playing with the same equipment and on the same fields, Challenger players have the opportunity to experience the joys of pulling together as a team, being cheered, making new friends and earning awards for their achievement.

Over 60 players, ranging in ages from 4-18, participated in 2016.  Many of our house and travel league players volunteer their time as “buddies” for the players to assist them throughout the game.  If you haven’t personally come to a game, I encourage you to come cheer on these amazing players on Sunday afternoons in late May through June.

Thank you for your continued support of LZBSA and please let us know how we can make your players experience better. Good luck in the upcoming season, have fun, and Go Cubs!!!  Unless you're a Sox fan!  :-)

On behalf of the entire LZBSA Board, THANK YOU and Play Ball!!!

Dale Young, Commissioner LZBSA
